Hsia Yan 夏陽 naît à Xiangxiang, Province du Hunan Chine.

Orphelin très jeune, il grandit à Nanjing. |
1949

Il est diplômé de l'Université Normale de Nanjing. |
|
|
1951
|
Il part étudier à Taipei, sous la conduite de Li Zhong-Sheng, aux préceptes novateurs. |
|
|
1955
|
Pendant le renforcement de la loi martiale, Hsia Yang et sept autres artistes chinois,
|
|
vont prendre le risque de fonder Ton-Fan, le premier mouvement d'art chinois
|
|
de tendance abstraite. Heureusement, le régime ignore tout de l'art avant-gardiste
|
|
et le groupe d'art Ton-Fan, en pinyin dongfang huahui 东方画会 Mouvement Orient,
|
|
peut alors s'exprimer. |

Il participe à la 1ère exposition du groupe Ton Fan en Espagne.

Il vient en France et étudie à l'E.S.B.A. de Paris. |
